Personally,
I love cats and dogs, I honestly believe that most cats kill, given the chance. Dogs are loyal and overall great fun, but I would never leave a dog alone with WAC even though I highly doubt anything would happen.
I have been around cats and dogs all my life, I find you have to impose on the animal who is the master whilst showing the animal respect and definatly give it attention.

I've just found a cat dead by the road and put up a notice as I think I recognise it from outside my flat. Even though I am not soppy about random animals as some people with pets are, I feel sad for the cat and sad for its in all likelihood loving home.
I'm not the master of any of my cats, and with two and especially one of them it's a continual battle of wills; that's what I like about them, however. Dogs are different because they naturally want a pack hierarchy and function less happily without it. |

Dog people love dogs because they are loyal, good company and display close to human emotions.
They are hated because their rouse fear (especially in children) with nasty barks and menacing growls which summons the fear of a bite.
Cat lovers love cats because they are soft plsayfull and independent and so easy to have as a pet.
Cat's are hated due to their stand offish nature and their five weapons which they can use in conjunction with the one human emotion they seem to display - envy.
Sal, I can't believe that you have lived thirty years and more without accepting these plain truths about people's attitudes to cats and dogs, especially with your love of the little feline furballs. |

What do you mean? I've already acknowledged the pros and cons of each. That doesn't mean that it makes any sense to hate either whole species: it just means that that species isn't for every person.

How many times do I have to say that I like cats and dogs the same? I don't like others' cats any more than others' dogs, and I don't love my own cats more than my own dogs from the past. |

Sal, this is the reason for my above post.
Did i pick you up wrong!!
It was not your attitude to cats and dogs it was your attitude to other peoples attitude on which was commenting. |

At a store I was in yesterday, another customer brought in her French Bulldog puppy. That was one of the cutest things I've ever seen. Really cute personality also.
---
My best friend, who boards her horses at my farm, has a Staffordshire Terrier aka pit bull. Max doesn't know that he is a thing of horror. He's very smart and very playful, and also very cowardly. He is terrified of the farm cats, who chase him. One time one of them cornered him in the barn and he tried to make himself as small as possible. -----
Here are videos of my friend Army Maguire, professional animal trainer, with his dog: http://www.animalconditioning.com/video.html
-----
Our farm cats are necessary for rodent control. But we enjoy their companionship also. One of them likes to ride on the little hay cart. My husband is a cat person, so we also have house cats. They like my son especially well and while he is working on his computer, they drape themselves around him. Sometimes there is barely room on his mousepad because of a cat on it.
-----
I have an aging Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Clyde. He is so precious to me. I don't think he's the sharpest tack in the box, but he is so cute, with his stumpy little legs. I call him, "Excessively Happy Clyde."

I am regurlary visited by my neighbours incredibly handsome, affectionate and clever Burmese cat called Shiva.
She understands orders like a dog and fights with affection where biting and scratching turns to purring and washing at a moments notice.
I do not feed him as that would be tantamount to stealing.
But when they go away their sister minds the house, when they got back she was very worried that Shiva would wander for hours and they said ah he's probably in with Ben, which is usually the case.
Even friends of mine who are not animal lovers adore him.
When i have people over of an evening Shiva joins us and really socialises and prowls around looking for affection and getting all the love.
It's great to have the perks of having a cat without the responsibility!! |

For my third birthday present I was allowed to choose from a litter of Cocker Spaniels. Naturally I picked the runt, a little black fur ball. For over 15 years Schwarz was a faithful and constant companion who especially loved roaming with me in the woods around the family cottage in the good old pre-leash law days.
About 30 years after his demise, at the same cottage a beautiful, young and very skinny stray tabby adopted my family by scrounging lunch scraps under the picnic table. My (then) three kids made me an offer I couldnt refuse and we took Licorice in. That was 15 years ago, and from day one I was Licorices main man, despite the kids efforts to bond with him. He developed cancer this spring and we had to put him down last week.
Thats my dog and cat history.
