11 am, I'm stuffed already, no presents left to open, kids are running around like madmen and I think a least one head is about to explode

So, merry christmas to ye all, especially to sean, foxy, Conan, boydegg and the rest of the antipodean crew for whom it is already christmas morning. The rest of you will catch up in due course

I don't usually share stories about my kids (I've discovered over the years that stories about the cute things kids do arent usually appreciated much unless you're their parents), but it IS christmas, so I'm allowed

My 4 year-old opened his 'omnitrix' this morning (a watch from the cartoon Ben 10 that can make said Ben turn into any one of a number of aliens). It's quite a nice omnitrix, with flashing lights and a plastic alien, and he was excited, but after an hour he is getting angry. It doesn't work, it needs new batteries. He has it set on the alien Heatblast, but he isn't turning into Heatblast.

I've tried explaining that it is just a toy, it isn't the real thing, but he doesn't believe me. "Look, it IS the real omnitrix, it just needs new batteries. PLEASE daddy, put some new batteries in it, I want to be Heatblast" ...

Each of the kids also got a really cool (and really cheap) remote control car that works on the wall and ceiling! They aren't allowed to play with them yet, though ... I haven't finished with them myself

Ah bah and humbug dad!! Give the kid some more batteries, if that toy can be Heatblast, he'll make him Heatblast, or at least get bored trying!!! In any case, Merry Christmas to you all who celebrate, and Happy Holidays to those for whom Hannukah is a joy.

Just finished Christmas Eve with the entire fambly--Mrs. lemmy and four wonderful kids age 22, 20, 18(son Chris who had his birthday today) and 15. The wonderful thing is they all still buy into the magic of the holiday just like they did when they were toddlers.

Hail little tiny mop.

Happy Christmas all. My kids are too old to want to get up at 5.00am, though unfortunately the common cold is just as effective at getting me up at an unsociable hour.

We exchanged a couple of presents each last night because Mrs Koli is working an early shift today, and I was struck by the thought the kids had put into our presents. Our eldest (21) framed a photo he'd taken of Stonehenge in August, altering the colours so that it has lots of purple and therefore goes well in our predominantly purple dining room cum computer room. Middle son (19) had managed to find a glass vase in just the right colour to go in the same room. And the youngest (16) bought me a Dark Knight DVD. Yey!

I haven't heard of the watch that Bife Junior is struggling with, though I've seen the remote-control car on TV. It seems very clever and is the brainchild of some sort of teenage prodigy. Naturally I'm hoping that Santa has brought me one.

I lost the Christmas spirit many years ago.....having a kid made it come back.

What a joy to watch thefoxcub's face light up this morning to see a heap of presents under the tree. He opened all of them, regardless if it was his or not.

Merry Christmas to you all.

Happy Christmas everyone.

I woke up feeling very unwell, the kind where you cannot think of anything that will make you feel better. But an hour(!) under a hot shower seems to have brought me to normal-unwell, which I'm happy to take.

I'm glad to hear that the children are all having fun of various kinds. I'm sorry that Miss Alice isn't there, but I hope she's having a great day too. At least we are in the age of communications technology.

Hope everyone had a Merry Xmas.

My sister is over from London for a couple of weeks, so plenty of eaty drinky behaviour is still to come. Yesterday (Xmas day) we had Xmas dinner at my parents place with my sister and an uncle and aunt, then had a repeat Xmas dinner at my brother's place later with his family. All good.

From memory, I opened:-

Petros (2003) bubbly (to get started)
Pegasus Bay (2004) pinot noir (with the turkey)
Seifried (2005) late harvest riesling (with tiramisu)
and later
Gustav Lorentz Rose NV Cremant d'Alsace bubbly
Unison (2002) bordeaux blend

That seemed to be enough for one day.

I had the worst Christmas ever. I decided to spend the day volunteering and giving food out to poor people, and as luck would have it, an ex-girlfriend was there volunteering as well (she was the one that dumped me). She's as strikingly beautiful as I remembered and I was like, "Oh shit." We said hello and asked how each other were and stuff for a few minutes, but then avoided each other like the plague. We didn't even make eye contact for the rest of the day. She didn't even say goodbye to me after the event was over! I kept wanting to take her behind the kitchen and make out; God she's gorgeous.

If that wasn't bad enough, one of the poor people we were giving food to was a weird looking transvestite who kept hitting on me, calling me "beautiful," asking for hugs, etc. He/She even talked about me to other volunteers saying stuff like "I want a piece of that!" and pointing to me. I took it as a compliment and kind of laughed it off, but it wasn't the kind of thing I wanted to be dealing with in front of my hot ex-girlfriend who I still wish would take me back.

That sounds really tough (and it was mean of her to not say goodbye), but at least you've got a funny story to tell in future years!

We had a lovely but very busy day.

Church at 9am followed by time with my folks; Markandlain and his family were down from Queensland - their bub is a real cutie. Then drop some things home, pick other things up (including my 17yo daughter's boyfriend) and off to my sister-in-law's place (about 100 miles away) for a pleasant afternoon with my wife's side of the family.

At 8pm it was time to drop my 17yo off at the airport (hence the need for the boyfriend's presence) so she could head off to Chiang Mai, Thailand with a school group where she'll be spending the next 3 weeks with her buddies at the Agape orphanage. We made it home just after midnight and so I skipped my normal Boxing Day treat - the Test match at the MCG. Instead we saw Bedtime Stories which my nieces loved (me too if the truth be told).

Just checked the Thailand team's website and the first photos have already been uploaded - gotta love the Internet.

Tomorrow though the cricket match beckons. Woo Hoo.

Will that be the longest you've ever gone without seeing her? It sounds like a great experience, though.

Yeah 3 weeks exceeds the previous record of 2 weeks set on her last Thailand trip in June last year. She's done a great job of raising all her travelling expenses for both expeditions. Next time I want to go but the idea of Dad coming along this time was quickly quashed with a "you come and you're paying for both of us" challenge. I got the hint.

I'm back home after a two day visit to my mom at her "assisted-living" residence. Cardboard turkey and dressing for Christmas dinner in the residence dining room. My wife's family comes here tomorrow for a belated REAL Holiday dinner. Yay!!

An unexpected Christmas gift: Our local TV cable company had an outtage last month and, to make up for it, we get free ShowTime for a month. A new batch of films to see so, like [matt], I'll have new fodder for fwifferiing.
