OK, so I know it wasn't REALLY from President Obama, and is just something that made its way through the bureaucracy until being sent out by some aide of an aide of an aide. Maybe Kal Pen sent it???

Anyhow, gotta say, I'm impressed. REALLY impressed, that the White House is so internet savvy, and that they are using the opportunity to "personally" reach out to each citizen.

Here is the message:

The White House, Washington

Dear Friend,

Last week, I announced United We Serve a nationwide call to service challenging you and all Americans to volunteer this summer and be part of building a new foundation for America.

And when I say all, I mean everyone young and old, from every background, all across the country. We need individuals, community organizations, corporations, foundations, and our government to be part of this effort.

Today, for the official kick off of United We Serve, members of my administration have fanned out across America to participate in service events and encourage all Americans to join them.

The First Lady is rolling up her sleeves and getting to work too. But before she headed out today, she asked me to share this message with you.

A Message From The First Lady

Our nation faces some of the greatest challenges it has in generations and we know its going to take a lot of hard work to get us back on track.

While Michelle and I are calling on every American to participate in United We Serve, the call to service doesnt end this fall. We need to stay involved in our towns and communities for a long time to come. After all, Americas new foundation will be built one neighborhood at a time and that starts with you.

Thank you,
President Barack Obama

Heck, I've been getting these since last May! It has been a very smooth transition from election mode to governing mode in terms of content.

At least from a communication pespective, these guys know what they're doing.

As we used to say in the Sixties: are you bragging or complaining?

LOL!

I really am impressed with, as Rockgolf said, the White House's communication knowledge and skills, because of having gotten the email. I never signed up for emails from the White House, although I am on some Congress and Senate mailing lists. HEY! Did the White House SPAM me??? I can just imagine, assuming other conservatives also received the email out of the blue, that some are raising hell about having been "spammed."

Anyone interested in understanding the progression of the political controlling of the populace should watch the Adam Curtis documentary series: The Century of the Self (available on Google video).

It talks about how the nephew of Freud, Edward Bernays, took his Uncle's theories and applied the principles to advertising to make the post-crash America a land of consumers. It goes on to talk about public relations, propaganda, Roosevelt's New Deal and statistical research, amongst other things, to give an understanding of people's herd mentality and how it can be manipulated.

Fascinating stuff and well worth it if you haven't seen any of Curtis' documentaries before. He tends to sift through the BBC archives and comes up with wonderful imagery to supplement his narrative making them a visual treat as well.
