You've all been very good and sent in your votes to the Deputy. I just need to watch England (soccer team) try to dig themselves out of trouble (they're currently 2-0 down at home against Croatia), and then I'll be back with the results.
Edit: If you either want to watch the highlights in ignorant bliss or can't bear the sight of abject humiliation, look away now.
The situation is this: thanks to the marvellous victory of Israel aganst Russia on Saturday, England began their match against Croatia in the knowledge that a draw would be enough to qualify for next year's European Championships. (Russia being beaten by Andorra would also have resulted in England qualifying, but Andorra had lost 29 qualifying matches in a row so that never seemed likely.)
Conceding two goals in the first 15 minutes wasn't a good start for England. But shortly after half time they scored twice. Remember, a draw would be enough. The score remained at 2-2 for quite a long time, and then Croatia scored again. England had 15 minutes to score again, and they chose the sophisticated approach: boot the ball as far up the field as possible and hope that Peter Crouch can get on to the end of the 'pass'.
Quite frankly, England didn't deserve to win. It was awful. Steve McLaren's days as manager must now be numbered. Let's hope the next one can work miracles. |

Well, infamy, infamy; the votes all came in for me. Let me rephrase that: the votes came in and some of them were for me.
But there were votes for everyone else too, and this is how it finished up.
In fourth place, with 7 votes (3,2,2), was Cheese_Ed
[Good job he didn't win, else I'd have had to choose the next theme.]
Second equal were...
Stalean with 9 votes (3,2,2,2)
[Good job she didn't win, else I'd have had to choose the next theme - she's away next week too.]
and...
Koli with 9 votes (3,3,2,1).
But the winner, by a considerable margin and attracting points for technical ability, artistic execution and brilliant special effects...
...he wasn't satisfied with one infamous character but felt obliged to embroider a morphing feast of notoriety...
...with 14 votes (3,3,3,3,2)...
...it's Turrell!
Come on up and take a bow, Turrell. Make a suitably tearful speech and choose a theme for our next contest. |
